California is a major supplier of plums to both domestic and overseas markets. Producers face perennial problems with transporting their plums over longer distances, with imperfections such as shrivel, discolouration, softness and internal defects all limiting the shelf life of the fruit.
In tests carried out at the University of Florida on plums in MAP boxes, both with and without It’s Fresh! Ethylene Control, the difference in fruit quality was marked.
